Garageband Version History

Cupertino, CA (July 30, 2021)—Apple has released new Sound Packs for use with GarageBand for iOS and iPadOS—eight Producer Packs of beats, loops, and instruments, all created by noted producers—and two Remix Sessions, offering step-by-step video instruction and featuring hits from Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga. Apple GarageBand (Free) Available on Mac. Best for Beginners (It is the simplified version of Apple Logic Pro, which is suitable for the professionals). GarageBand is arguably the easiest free DAW software to get started on Mac. It is designed to be extremely low in ease of use, and each version upgrade will bring more features. A beautiful and intuitive interface makes it easy to learn, play, record, and create great-sounding songs. GarageBand was updated to version 10.0.3 on October 16, 2014. This version included myriad bug fixes and several new features including a dedicated Bass Amp Designer, the introduction of global track effects and dynamic track resizing. GarageBand is a fully equipped music creation studio right inside your Mac — with a complete sound library that includes instruments, presets for guitar and voice, and an incredible selection of session drummers and percussionists.

GarageBand is not part of Yosemite.

How did you reinstall Yosemite? If you restored your Mac from a Time Machine backup, you should have restored the same version as before.

Perhaps you have set your System Preferences > App Store to allow automatic application updates? The most recent Garageband update is GarageBand 10.1, released at the end of June.

Garageband Version History

The previous major version of GarageBand is GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5. This version is part of the iLife '11 package and very different from the newer GarageBand 10.0. Apple does not sell this version any longer. New Macs come only with GarageBand 10.0.

If you previously owned GarageBand '11, you may abe to reinstall it from the Purchases tab of the AppStore. It will show there, if you bought it from the AppStore or bought a Mac with GarageBand '11 preinstalled with MacOS 10.7 or later.
