Microsoft Word Menu Bar Missing

The Reset Toolbar dialog box. Hopefully, this will display your menu bar. If it doesn't, try starting Word from the command line with the /a switch. Depending on the problem that may be causing the missing menu bar, this could trigger Word to do some repairs to itself.

Microsoft Word Menu Toolbar Disappeared

  1. Is it the toolbar that is missing, or the ribbon? If you see the headings File, Home, Insert, etc., just click one of them and the ribbon will open. Now go to the right end of the ribbon and click the little icon of a thumb tack to lock the ribb.
  2. Recently, I have been answering the question of how to restore a missing toolbar or ribbon from Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. This tip works for any of the Office tools 2007 or newer. Usually, the toolbar goes missing because of an errant click or keyboard combination.
  3. Regrettably, the missing menus problem is a hardy perennial in Word, Missing menus hasn't been fixed for several versions now, and that's because nobody can discover quite how it happens. Sure, sometimes it's user error; and sometimes it's some toxic 'internet helper' or add-in, or 'improvement' or 'haxie' or 'explorer bar' or the like that you.
  4. Word 2003 and earlier for Windows. From the Tools menu, select Customize. Click the Toolbars tab, and then select the toolbar you would like to restore. Click the Reset. In the window that appears, choose Normal to apply this to all documents, or choose the specific document you are working on.

If the PPC menu, as well as the PPC tickmarks toolbar, is missing from Microsoft Excel or Word it could be the result of the appropriate add-in becoming disabled or damaged.

Notes:

  • To display the available PPC tickmarks, from the main menu select PPC and then Tickmarks Toolbar.
  • You can show/hide the Tickmarks toolbar by right clicking anywhere in the toolbar and selecting Checkpoint Tools Tickmarks. You can also select PPC / Tickmarks Toolbar to show or hide this toolbar.

To view if the add-in is DISABLED, follow these steps:

Office 2010 and higer

Microsoft
  1. Select File > Options.
  2. In Excel (Word) Options, select Add-Ins on the left hand side.
  3. Under Manage: Select Disabled Items and select the Go button.
  4. Highlight the Add-in and select Enable.

To verify if the add-in is ENABLED, follow these steps:

Office 2010 and higher

  1. Select File > Options.
  2. In Excel (Word) Options, select Add-Ins on the left hand side.
  3. Under Manage: Select Excel (Word) Add-ins and select the Go button.
  4. Verify the appropriate add-in name is marked.

    Excel: OBETEXCELVBACommon.xla

    Word: OBETWORDVBACommon.dot

  5. In the Add-Ins dialog, under Manage: Select COM Add-ins and select the Go button.
  6. Verify the appropriate add-in name is marked - PPC Tickmarks.

If the above steps do NOT resolve the missing PPC tickmarks or toolbar, follow these steps:

  1. Verify all applications are closed.
  2. Select Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Locate Checkpoint Tools for PPC and highlight.
  4. Select additional Support Information and click Repair.
