Photos Unsupported Library Newer Version

Jul 16, 2021 Quit the Photos app. Hold down the Option key and open Photos. One of the photo libraries is already designated as YourLibraryName (System Photo Library). Choose the library you want to designate as the System Photo Library. After Photos opens the library, choose Photos Preferences from the menu bar. Click the General tab. I know it was 2700 times because once photoprism flags a photo for review, it takes 2 clicks PER PHOTO to get it added to your library. There is NO bulk 'approve' or 'deny' method. I dont even consider myself having a 'large' photo library with 15k photos, but I absolutely can not recommend Photoprism. I'm still looking for a replacement. Click the Start button and click on your User name listed near the top, Massive resetting of the hidden attributes can be done by right clicking the (my pictures.) listing, and select Properties, General tab section, Check the Hidden box near the bottom, and click on Apply.

By default, imported photos are copied into the Photos library. If you prefer, you can store photos and videos outside the Photos library—for example, in a folder on your Mac or on an external hard drive—and still view them in Photos. If you ever need to move content stored outside the library into your Photos library, you can do that, too. Photos provides the repair functions to fix for the broken and version-incompatible photo library. If the Photos app on the Mac is open, choose Photos - Quit Photos. Hold down Option-Command and double-click the Photos icon in the Applications folder. In the Repair Library window, click Repair to rebuild your photo library.

With the recent release of operating system updates, you might see a message like this in Photos in macOS:

The original image was captured in an unsupported image format. To view the full-resolution photo you need to upgrade to the latest version of macOS.

It’s a new one, unique to asymmetric upgrading! If you move your iPhone or iPad to iOS 11, change a setting, and keep a Mac running macOS 10.12 Sierra or earlier, you can wind up with files syncing across iCloud that Photos for macOS can display previews of, but not manipulate.

iOS 11 and macOS 10.13 High Sierra add support for two super-efficient image and video file formats: HEIF and HEVC. By default, iOS 11 cameras shoot in formats that are backwards compatible. However, you can change this in Settings > Camera > Formats by switching Most Compatible to High Efficiency.

iOS 11 can still export and share files by converting them, which it does automatically. But iCloud Photo Library sync copies the exact file.

Apple has no plans to update older versions of Photos, so you’ll need High Sierra and its updated version of Photos to work directly with the new formats.

The error message will be given if you opened a Photos Library in a newer version of Photos, perhaps a Beta version. If that happens, you have to upgrade your Mac to that same version of MaxOS X.

You will not see an update at the AppStore, if you are running an older major release of MacOS X, for example macOS 10.12.6 Sierra. There are no more macOS 10.12 updates. But you can upgrade by installing the new major release macOS 10.13 High Sierra. macOS High Sierra - Apple
